In Term 4, our topic was 'Hola Mexico!'.
The children really enjoyed this topic as a lot of our work focused on the story 'Holes' by Louis Sachar.
This is an exciting tale of Stanley Yelnats, a boy wrongly accused of stealing, who finds himself at a correctional camp. We wrote some wonderfully descriptive pieces of writing about Camp Green Lake.
We also learned about the ancient Maya people who inhabited Mexico. We researched their lifestyles using laptops and even had a go at making traditional Mayan chocolate for our WOW day! We came up with some interesting concoctions - these included cinnamon, chilli powder and paprika!
We learned about the Mexican 'Day of the Dead' festival and we produced some really informative non-chronological reports about it too.
Did you know that it is believed that dead children or 'angelitos' visit on November 1st and adults visit on the 2nd?
