Zephaniah class have been working extremely hard this year. Scroll down to see some of the fun activities we have been up to!
We have come back to the Summer Term with our swords drawn and arrows flying as we extend our knowledge of the Anglo Saxons and build up to the dramatic, world changing event of The Battle of Hastings.
We are going to focus on a historical fiction this term, as if we were actually at the famous battle in our narrative writing.
In topic, we have already learnt about who The Normans were and where they came from and have had a go at writing in Calligraphy pens Kennings based on William The Conqueror.
We have also focused on embroidery skills to pay homage to The Bayeux Tapestry (it actually was an embroidery, not a tapestry as it was sewn, not woven).
Watch this space for drawbridges, Domesday Books and perhaps a few pop up castles!
We had a fantastic term before the Easter holidays, learning about The Anglo- Saxons and the Vikings. We wrote Newspaper Reports about finding the remains of a great Viking/Saxon battle on the grounds of Wilshere Dacre.
We learnt about Beowulf and The Monks of Lindisfarne, as well as creating a Saxon/Viking Trade fair in the hall. The year 3's were invited into buy (with Viking coins) soaps carved with runes, bookmarks with illuminated letters, Viking brooches or even a brochure to buy your very own Saxon hut from our estate agent team!
To celebrate the end of our topic Misty Mountains, we invited a real mountaineer into our class. He showed us what was needed for big adventures and even let us dress up and use some of the equipment.
Hobbit Wow Day!
As part of our topic Misty Mountains, we have been reading the Hobbit and creating our own adventure stories in a similar style. For our wow day, we made our own hobbit cloaks and daggers and acted out parts of the story in the woods.
